Description

Not every e-collar is built for the same dog. The 1900X is a high-output system, which means it’s designed for dogs that require more stimulation to get a response; a hard-charging Lab who’s nose-down in a scent trail at 400 yards and tuning you out, or a coonhound working a line that isn’t interested in coming in at the end of the night. The 100-level rheostat gives you precise control across that range, so you can start low and only go where you actually need to go.

Range is rated at 3/4 mile, which is enough for most open-country bird hunting and most upland situations where you can still see the dog. In timber or thick switchgrass where line-of-sight breaks down, range is less relevant anyway, what matters is a reliable connection, and the 1900X delivers that. The metal protective case adds real durability for a collar that’s going to get dragged through every kind of cover and water crossing a hunting dog encounters.

The BOOST function delivers a higher-intensity correction on demand, useful for a dog that’s hit a bird and is about to break before you can get there. Safety Level Lock prevents accidentally going above your set level. The built-in LED beacon light is genuinely useful for tracking a dog in low-light conditions at the end of a late-season hunt.

The 1900X is expandable to three dogs. If you’re running two dogs, the 1900X Add-On Collar adds a second receiver to your existing transmitter. For smaller or lighter-framed dogs that work the same demanding conditions, the Dogtra 280X covers similar ground in a more compact package. If you also want GPS alongside your e-collar work, the Dogtra Pathfinder 2 pairs GPS tracking with e-collar function in a single system.

The Ugly Dog Take: The 1900X is our recommendation for any hunter running a larger, high-drive dog in serious field conditions. The extra output headroom matters — not because you’ll use it every day, but because you need it available when the dog is 500 yards out and about to cross a county road. The BOOST function has saved more than a few wild flushes or emergency trips to the vet. For a dog under 30 lbs or a soft-tempered dog, it’s more collar than you need, look at the 280C or 280X instead.
