The Dogtra 280X is the evolution of the 280C; same compact receiver footprint, but with updated button layout, BOOST function, Boost & Lock safety, and a wider output range. Built for dogs 10-100 lbs in the field or the yard.
The 280X takes the things that made the 280C popular; compact size, precise rheostat control, comfortable fit for smaller dogs and adds the features that serious trainers and hunters actually want. Same small receiver profile. More capability where it counts.
The biggest additions over the 280C are BOOST and the Boost & Lock safety system. BOOST delivers a higher-intensity correction on demand without having to scroll through levels. You can dial in a working level for normal corrections and hit BOOST when the dog needs a sharp, immediate response. Boost & Lock prevents accidental overstimulation by locking your maximum level, which matters when you’re running the collar in demanding field conditions with gloved hands.
Output range is wider than the 280C, covering more dog sizes and temperaments effectively. The 280X handles dogs from 10 lbs up to 100 lbs which means it works for everything from a compact pointer to a large retriever, as long as the dog isn’t one that specifically needs the maximum output of the 1900X.
The 1/2-mile range is consistent with the rest of the compact Dogtra line, enough for controlled training setups, close-working dogs, and most upland hunting scenarios. If you’re regularly hunting open country where your dog is working at 400+ yards, the 1900X with its 3/4-mile range is worth the step up.
Add a second dog with the 280X Add-On Collar. For hunters who want GPS alongside their e-collar, the Dogtra Pathfinder 2 integrates both in one smartphone-based system.
