Description

VHF works great, until the terrain doesn’t cooperate. The Alpha LTE is your backup that becomes your primary.

The Garmin Alpha LTE is a cellular-based dog tracker that clips onto your existing collar strap and sends your dog’s location to the free Garmin Alpha app on your smartphone over LTE cellular networks. No handheld required to get started, just the app, a subscription, and a cell signal. And when you want the full picture, it pairs simultaneously with any compatible Alpha series handheld, automatically switching between LTE and VHF signals to give you the best available connection at any moment. Garmin calls it smart switching. Hunters call it peace of mind.

This is the tracker for the situations where traditional GPS gets stretched: dense river bottoms, deep hardwood hollows, big rolling plains country where dogs work miles out. Anywhere that radio line-of-sight breaks down with your Alpha 300 or Alpha 200i, the LTE is still pulling location data through the cell network and pushing it to your phone.

The device is compact — 70mm x 35.8mm x 30.7mm, 50 grams — and slides onto any collar strap up to 1 inch wide, including the straps on your existing TT25 or T20 collars. Multi-GNSS combines GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite systems for improved reception in exactly the kind of broken terrain where you need it most.

Battery life is up to 32 hours on dynamic tracking, which auto-adjusts update frequency based on dog movement. Bump to 2-minute update intervals and that stretches to 75 hours — useful for longer hunts where you just want general awareness rather than real-time tracking, or add it to their collar around the homestead for an affordable every day tracking option. Multi-color LED beacon lights are controlled through the Alpha app, and rescue mode automatically slows the update rate if your dog goes missing, buying you maximum battery time to find them.

The LTE subscription is $49.99/year, purchased through the free Garmin Alpha app. Compatible with Alpha 300/300i, Alpha 200/200i, Alpha 200 Plus, and Alpha 10 handhelds. Track up to 20 collars simultaneously.

If you already run a Garmin Alpha system, the LTE adds a redundant layer that works where your handheld can’t reach. If you’re new to Garmin tracking and want the lowest-cost entry into the ecosystem, it’s nothing but a phone and an app to get started.
