The Dogtra Compass Handheld GPS Connector gives you full GPS tracking and e-collar control in one waterproof unit. Track up to 21 dogs, 4 on screen at once, with a built-in 3-axis compass and 2-second GPS updates. Works with all PATHFINDER2 receivers.
The Pathfinder 2 system is excellent when your phone is in your hand and your battery is charged. The Compass Handheld is for everyone who doesn’t want to depend on that. It’s a standalone GPS unit; waterproof, rugged, and runs independently from your phone.
The key spec is the built-in 3-axis compass. Instead of just showing you dots on a map, the Compass shows you the direction and distance to each dog in real time as a compass bearing which can save you time in the field. The 2″ display shows up to four dogs simultaneously with their live compass arrows and distances. GPS updates every 2 seconds. Multi-GNSS support means it’s pulling signal from multiple satellite systems, not just GPS and equals better acquisition in tough terrain.
Range depends on which collar receiver you pair it with: up to 9 miles with the standard Pathfinder 2 collar, up to 4 miles with the Pathfinder 2 Mini. It’s compatible with all PATHFINDER2 receivers, if you already have a Pathfinder 2 system running through your phone, the Compass Handheld is a direct upgrade of the connector. Your existing collars work as-is.
E-collar control is fully integrated. 100-level stimulation dial, eight correction types (nick, constant, nick/constant, tone, pager, boost, boost lock, LED light). Two customizable control layouts: Select One mode assigns all button functions to one dog at a time, Override Mode lets you assign each button to a different dog for hands-free multi-dog corrections without looking down. Up to four dogs can receive corrections simultaneously in Override Mode; the remaining dogs get tracking only.
Charges via USB-C. IPX9K waterproof. Day and night display modes. No subscription, no data plan required for standalone operation. Pair with the PATHFINDER2 app optionally for full satellite maps, GPS fencing, geo-fencing, track line recording, and advanced settings.
At $349.99 for the handheld alone, $598.48 for the Compass + Pathfinder 2 Bundle, or $549.99 for the Pathfinder 2 Mini Compass set (the Pathfinder 2 Mini system bundled with the Compass), this is Dogtra’s direct answer to dedicated GPS handhelds that run $750 or more from competitors.
The Ugly Dog Take: The Compass Handheld is what we’d recommend to most serious hunters over the phone-only connector setup that want a Dogtra product and to save money. The standalone operation matters, you won’t have to worry about a dead phone battery during the last hour of a long day. The compass-based tracking display is useful in heavy cover than scrolling around a map. And the e-collar integration is tight enough that this can replace both your GPS and your training collar remote at the same time. If you’re already running a Pathfinder 2 system through your phone, this is the upgrade worth making. If you’re buying GPS for the first time, start here.
