There’s a category of hunting dogs — the pointing breeds, some of the smaller retrievers, the versatile continental breeds — where collar bulk is a real consideration. A big e-collar receiver on a 20-pound griffon or a compact Brittany is awkward, and it can affect how the dog moves and sits. The 280C is built for those dogs.

It’s Dogtra’s smallest receiver. The Rheostat Dial gives you 127 mid-range stimulation levels with fine-grained control — better suited to lighter-tempered dogs and foundational obedience work than maximum-output collars designed for hard-charging hunting dogs. The dial interface is more intuitive for handlers who prefer tactile control over digital buttons. 1/2-mile range is adequate for upland scenarios where you’re staying relatively close to the dog and working in thick cover where range is limited anyway.

The 280C is also a solid choice for obedience training, retriever yard work, and any situation where a smaller, lower-profile collar makes sense. Dogs as small as 10 lbs can wear it comfortably. If you want to run two dogs on one transmitter, the 282C is the two-dog version of the same system.

For hunters running a larger dog or a dog that needs more output, the Dogtra 280X is the current-generation upgrade with more features and output range in a similar compact footprint. If you need a beeper built in, the 2700 T&B is the upland-specific solution.
