Your handheld tracks the dogs. Your fēnix 8 means you never have to dig it out of your vest to check.
The Garmin fēnix 8 AMOLED is a premium multisport GPS smartwatch that integrates directly with your Alpha series dog tracking handheld. Slip the Alpha 300, Alpha 200i, Alpha 200 Plus, or the Pro 550 Plus into your vest and follow along on your wrist. Your fēnix 8 immediately starts displaying real-time dog data on your wrist. Dog name, distance, direction of travel, and on-point or treed alerts appear on the dog tracking widget without you touching the handheld. For an upland hunter working through thick cover, or a houndsman running big country at night, that single feature changes how you hunt.
Display: The AMOLED screen is Garmin’s most vivid display yet. Crisp text and full topographic mapping that reads cleanly in direct sunlight and looks sharp in low light. It’s a genuine step up from older MIP-based Garmin watches: maps are more detailed, data fields are easier to scan at a glance, and the always-on option looks sharp.
Built for the field: Dive-rated to 40 meters with leakproof buttons and a metal sensor guard. Tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock, and water resistance. The Gen 5 Elevate sensor adds ECG capability and skin temperature monitoring. A built-in speaker and microphone handle calls from your wrist via Bluetooth, and the integrated LED flashlight with white and red safety modes keeps you moving during early morning setups and late evening retrieves.
Standard vs. Sapphire: The Standard edition uses a stainless steel bezel and Gorilla Glass lens. Solid, capable, $100 less. The Sapphire edition upgrades to a titanium bezel and sapphire crystal lens, which is lighter, more scratch-resistant, and meaningfully more durable for the kind of daily fieldwork that puts gear through its paces. If you’re hunting hard cover or running dogs in rough country, the Sapphire is worth the upgrade.
Size guide: The 43mm is the smallest and lightest option, available in AMOLED only. The 47mm is the sweet spot for most wrists: 1.4″ screen, strong battery life, 22mm band. The 51mm is for larger wrists or anyone who wants maximum battery life. It runs up to 29 days in smartwatch mode and takes a 26mm band.
Want maximum battery life above all else? See the fēnix 8 Solar, up to 48 days with solar charging, MIP display. Need standalone satellite and LTE messaging from your wrist without a phone? See the fēnix 8 Pro.
Already running an Instinct 3? The fēnix 8 is the step up. Larger display, more detailed mapping, premium materials, and deeper training analytics for hunters who also push hard in the off-season.
Compatible handhelds for dog tracking: Alpha 300/300i, Alpha 200/200i, Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 10, Astro 430, and Pro 550 Plus. Displays dog name, distance, direction, and on-point/treed alerts via the dog tracking widget.
Our take: If you’re already running a Garmin Alpha Pro 550 Plus system, the fēnix 8 AMOLED is the cleanest way to add wrist-based dog tracking without carrying a second device. The dog widget alone is worth it for houndsmen or bird dogger covering big country where you can’t afford to take your eyes off the terrain. If you’re building a new system from scratch, this is the watch you build the rest of the kit around.
